As our pets age, it’s only natural that their veterinary care should evolve to meet their changing needs. And, after a lifetime of service and love, it’s only natural that you should want to meet those care needs. At All Creatures Animal Hospital, we will help your pet age gracefully and continue to live his or her life to the fullest.

Most dogs and cats have earned their senior status by age 7. By this point in their short lives, their youth has passed and adulthood is fading into the rough equivalent of a person in their mid to late 50s.

Like us at this stage of life, pets begin to move a little slower and begin to feel the aches and pains of aging. The dietary needs of most pets will begin to change, and they will become more prone to chronic health conditions such as cataracts and glaucoma, arthritis, and degenerative diseases.

In an effort to keep pace with your pet’s developing health needs, our staff recommends wellness exams at least twice a year, as well as bi-annual blood work and diagnostics. This constant vigilance will allow us to detect and treat any potentially serious health threats before they become too serious.

As your pet’s age advances even further, we will do our best to help you manage any chronic pain your pet may be experiencing, and hold your hand through his or her end-of-life care when the time comes.

If you have any questions or concerns about your senior pet and the care he or she needs for a happy and healthy life, please give us a call. We’re happy to be here for the both of you as your pet navigates this stage of his or her life.
